Business paper among world's best designed

El Economista, a new business newspaper out of Madrid, Spain, was named one of SND's world best designed newspapers.

My high school/college Spanish is passable. So I can't understand everything on these pages. But they are appealing. The paper launched in March, 2006. If you want to  learn more, see http://www.newsdesigner.com/archives/002483.php I especially like their illustrations.

I also love how orange is the new green for business. You may remember the KC Star went with orange this year for their redesign of their business section.

These two pages are simple in their execution, but smart.

We're always told to think shapes. This is great. I got it immediately. Kudos to Kelli Sullivan at the LA Times.

Could this girl's eyes be any freakier? But serously, taxes do make you feel like you're getting eaten.

An update to a an earlier post: Lincoln is wearing a chef's cap in the billboard, and it's in Davenport. The author regrets the errors. I'll put up an image later.

Redesign in Pensacola

Noticed this on newspagedesigner. I must say, I've seen the Pensacola front and find it very staid. But this business cover is very alive. I like it a lot! Anyone from down there want to weigh in?

New pages

Hey everyone. I've downloaded a few pages for discussion.

First up, this one from the Charlotte Observer. I almost passed it by, but the designer's comments struck me. That's when I noticed the clouds were dollar signs. Creative, but I think if they were black it might have caught my eye quicker.

Next up, here's one from Ventura County. Not sure why the headline is diagonal. It definitely caught my eye, but I don't know why it was done this way. Perhaps the designer can shed some light. What do you guys think?

 

Lastly, this one from Hartford. It always seems, when in doubt, manipulate the bill. Not sure it worked here; the tones seem off. But I swear, a couple days ago I saw Lincoln wearing a graduation cap on a billboard in Bettendorf. So they're copying the Courant.
